The garden grows regardless......

Life has a habit of running away on  us. I thought once the wedding was out of the way that I would have more time for the garden. Unfortunately that hasn't happened yet. One thing has led to another and the garden is looking like a total jungle at this stage. The grass is like a meadow and Holly has taken full advantage of me not having time or energy to chase her when she's doing the business so the place is destroyed. But the grass is finally getting to Steve so I'm hoping he'll do something about it this coming weekend.

I had made a start on the autumn cut-back but that didn't last long. Unfortunately Dad has taken priority in my life right now - a few health issues. Plus the work on his house still hasn't been started, but things are beginning to move now. So basically I'm living just from day to day.

There are still some bulbs to be planted from my Mr. Middleton warehouse sale, so when I get a chance this evening, I hope to be done with that lot. One small job ticked off the very lengthy list.

Hazel alerted me to her flowering Mahonia the other day. And lo and behold my own one M. 'Winter Sun' is taking centre stage at the moment. And to think I nearly missed it. Although Mahonias are good for their long-lasting blooms. Waterlilies are still performing well and it's almost November. Mother Nature is truly amazing. My Osmunda regalis dies back very nicely with its russet tones. It's one of my favourite ferns.

Lovely photos Jacinta. I hope your father is improving.

Three lovely plants Jacinta.  Your Dad will appreciate all your loving care and that's what matters most.  Our gardens are slowing down now and yours will be fine until you can get back to it. Mind yourself too!

Lovely photos Jacinta, Mahonia is a great shrub for a burst of colour. I know the feeling of making lists, but i keep losing them! It will all get done in its own time.  Best wishes to your dad, hope you get a chance to enjoy the garden over the weekend.

Take heart Jacinta - you are doing the right thing putting your Dad ahead of the garden! Trust me, turning into a jungle is not the worst thing that can happen! When you DO get around to the garden you will be constantly surprised by the little treasures that will emerge from the jungle! Its good that Steve is taking some of the load off you - but you are the one with the expertise so you'll just have to sit back and let him make his own mistakes and hope that the mistakes will sort themselves out over time!

Best wishes to you and your Dad. Lovely photos.

Hope your Dad's health issues improve. gardens come a distant second to loved ones. And if you want to be consoled Scrubber's garden at present  is dire doleful and desolate!!!!This aint the time for rejuvenation that will come in  spring. You are so right to try to do one small thing at a time. I cleared a path yesterday and it did me and the path good! But this aint the time to overstretch ourselves. Winter will do a lot of clearing up for us¬!

Im sorry to hear your dad isn't doing well I hope he improves. At least he has you looking after him, which is more important than the garden for now. Not much going on now really either. Mine is very overgrown and really needs a tidy up too but if it doesn't get done Spring is the time. so chill ;) lovely photos.

As Peter says, winter will do a lot of the clearing up in the garden. It is dreadful that your dad still has not had any work done with the house. It must be very distressing for him.
