McDonalds Ice Cream Tub

McDonalds Ice Cream Tub

Our Grandaughter was here for the weekend  two weeks ago and we went to Mc Donalds for a treat and she had ice cream in this tub , and I took it home and put little holes in the bottom of it and sowed the first tomato seeds in in and this morning came down to check and what I saw was my 2 seeds had come up, Excitment! showed it to Greg and what do you think he said OH LETS CELEBRATE !!  Hear that Fran and you know Greg and I am going to hold him to that as he is not a gardener at all but likes all to do with it and does do all the hard work when needed so the start of my gardening.

Very good Clare. What some people throw out others make good use of.

Great idea, haven't sown any seeds yet

Clara Clara 02 March 2011 11:20:09

Mcdonald I only sowed this little lot and after seeing it up made me sow a few more, not going mad this year as it was a job to keep all potted on and looked after.

I agree it takes loads of time potting on and transplanting, sometimes we take on more than we can handle.

;-))

I do the same, too. Kept all the plastic cups, yogurt tubs, plastic trays (that supermarket vegetables come in) and anything that looks like it can hold compost as my seed 'tray' and propagator.

Dick Dick 02 March 2011 14:58:30

Clare, you seem to have three little propagators:)

Ladybird Ladybird 02 March 2011 16:19:27

Brilliant idea Clare hope they produce loads of tomatoes.

unagrant unagrant 02 March 2011 16:50:04

They make a excellent propagator

Clara Clara 02 March 2011 16:59:06

I only sowed 2 seeds and am so happy now I have sown some more seeds today.

Rachel Rachel 02 March 2011 17:12:17

Well done.

Excellent news. So how are you going to celebrate?    :)I hope Greg wasn't being sarcastic.

Clara Clara 02 March 2011 19:15:24

Sow more Jacinta as I did today,    what do you think was Gregs comment sarcastic ???

J.D. J.D. 02 March 2011 19:22:38

Is Greg not taking you out for a nice slap up meal, then?:)

Sounds like you are going to have plenty of tomatoes to keep you all going, with more being sown today too.

Clara Clara 02 March 2011 19:42:54

I am not sowing as many as last year as I had for every one one the road including all my family which is a large one.

I always use sweet jars - you know the plastic ones.  My preferred ones are the ones with screw lids on which are not that easy to find these days.   I put them on a plank of wood on a double radiator for bottom heat.  My cosmos  and morning glory germinated by this method.  I put the pots inside the jars.   Lovely Clara to get rapid germination.
