Tradescantia ' Purple Sabre'

Tradescantia ' Purple Sabre'

I have had this plant for ages maybe 2 years and never had such beautiful little purple flowers on it at each leaf it is just so pretty , I have started to give it a little Baby Bio for the past few months and am wondering is this why.?  I only give it a little once a month, but if it is I will be using this more often.

That a special one, Clara, Do you have it in a pot indoors? I have the 'ordinary' one in the border - bought it at Bloom last year and to be honest it is disappointing. Never seems to have more than a few flowers open at any given time, even though it has lots of buds. If it doesnt 'buck up' it might get the chop!

Very pretty!

It looks lovely! Maybe you should keep with the feeding regime you have, more may not be better!!!!

I got one at Bill's in June that has flowered non stop since so when I saw the sweet kate 'blue and gold' on sale in woodies last week I purchased a few and the flowers, unbelievably, are still fab today after the ferocious wind.

Gorgeous Clare. I'm a big fan of Tradescantias and their relatives.

I plan on buying one today. Couldn't buy anything for the last few days with the stocktake, so today's my chance!

The one that Anne has mentioned has been through the mill in our garden centre and it's still looking really terrific with all that weather. So it has passed the test 'with honours'. I hope to have it planted by the weekend. ANd when everything is 'going over' now, isn't it good that they have colour and stability to add to the sleeping garden!

But I think I would hold back on the feed now. It will only produce lush growth which will be very susceptible to frost damage. I would start to feed again in late March. I love the colour of the stems of your one, Clare.

Intrigued by  Greg's new project!

If I remember remember Anne I think Paddy and Mary bought that tradescantia for swapping?

ladygardener ladygardener 14 September 2011 10:53:41

Yes Bill it's Paddy and Mary gave me the green one at yours, I love it

Clara Clara 14 September 2011 21:23:47

One I got from Paddy and Mary is flowering away lots of buds and seems to have survived the storms.
