Circuit completed

Over the weekend I got the path competed around the mound in the far corner. I used sandstone slabs as a complete contrast to evertthing else in the garden.

This confirms my belief in, no matter how small a garden you have, you can create totally different areas very easily.

I am planning on growing small creepers and ferns between the slabs and at the base of the few steps.

I was hoping to grow daffs under the hedge for spring interest, but the more I look at it the more I'm thinking its far to dry. Any opinions more than welcome.

Your probably thinking correctly, Fran! You would need to plant deep and mulch well.

Moya Moya 02 July 2012 22:43:53

Fran, you have been busy. That is looking great. You are full of ideas.

Hosta Hosta 02 July 2012 22:47:58

I would move the watering can lol

Ha ha Snap, Margaret.

But seriously Fran, I don't find it an easy task creating different areas in a small garden. In fact, I think it's MORE difficult. But it looks like you are 'on the ball'.

That looks great Fran; now we all know who to consult about creating different areas.  Agree with the others about the daffs and they would probably want to stretch and flop over the path anyway.

looking good, and go with your own planting instincts.

Maybe the 'watering can',

is my beer mug ;-)) Hic !!

To be fair Fran, it looks great and yet again shows your eye for detail.

What about Cyclamen at the base of the hedge ?

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 02 July 2012 23:09:08

How about smaller spring bulbs - maybe winter aconites or Anemone blanda or even grapr hyacinth? they wouldn't flop over so much and ould give a ligt to that area in the spring. lots of mulch would see to the dryness ... or if you really want the "daff" look you could try Tete-a-Tete .... Whatever you decide, the path looks brilliant!

Or fritellaria uva-vulpis!

The path looks great.

I think it was Monty Don who planted autumn crocus at edge of a hedge, not sure when the bulbs come in the shops.

MartinB MartinB 03 July 2012 18:54:46

One of the slabs is broken fran

fran m fran m 03 July 2012 20:44:44

Gosh Martin, how sharp you are. That's what gave me the idea of inter planting around the slabs.

I could have used the last full one, but I tend to do things different ;-))

HeadGardener HeadGardener 03 July 2012 21:19:56

I was going to say that Martin but decided not to push my luck LOL
