I guess at this stage most of the members here know of the very sad news of the death of Joshua Darlington.

To the newer members on the site here Rachel Darlington is one of the main reasons this site is here today. When it started, Rachel was posting journals to no one, because there was no one out there. How that has all changed?

As Rachel, Norman, family and friends are laying their beloved son to rest today, can I please ask as mark of respect  to the nicest friends and family I have had the great pleasure of  ever getting to know, that we all refrain from posting journals on the site for 24 hours.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all, from all of us here on Garden.ie

At Joshua's funeral today there was so much love, appreciation, care, sympathy. It was a heartbreaking farewell graced by the bravery of the family in their unbearable grief. Ishtar somehow managed to speak the most memorable heartfelt appreciative few words. Rachel, Norman, Samuel and Ori  somehow also managed to master their terrible grief and respond to whatever poor words we offered. The celebrant spoke well with compassion and thoughtful sympathy and the schools which Joshua had attended were there to honour him in great numbers forming guards of honour and doing prayers and readings. One could not but be deeply moved. Peace to his young heart and to his beloved  grieving family.

My memory of a first visit from Rachel  to my garden about 6 or 7 years ago was with her boys enjoying apple tart in my sun room, a beautiful  family and I hope that in time those memories will  soften  the pain.  A loving hug to you all.

Thinking of you Rachel and Family in this very sad time.

Moya Moya 11 March 2017 23:01:41

This is the most tragic news I have heard in a long time. My heart goes out to Rachel, Norman, Ishtar, Samual and Ori. I feel I have got to know the Darlingtons a little through Rachel's lovely book and this makes Joshua's death all the more difficult to take on board. Rachel has been very kind to me since I joined this site and has set a standard of graciousness and kindness which permeates all the exhanges on the site to this day.

Rachel, you have been so generous with your knowledge, good advice, seeds and plants.

I hope that the support of your family and friends will be some comfort to you at this extremely difficult time. All my sympathy.

Over the past few days, my thoughts and prayers have with you Rachel, and Norman and your family.  My sincerest sympathy on such a deep deep loss.

TerriShoos TerriShoos 13 March 2017 11:54:55

All over this lovely weekend when working in the garden we've thought of Rachel and Norman and their family and the pain they are suffering. To lose a child after all the hard work of childhood and just as they are moving into adulthood must be the hardest loss of all. There is no real comfort, but your friends are all thinking of you and Joshua and wishing you, eventually, peace. RIP
