Day for Indoor Jobs

Get Off My Patch

Get Off My Patch

Not a great day very wild and wet glad I made the decision to spend the day in the garden yesterday instead of sowing seeds. Today I made a start and cleaned down the propagator which had been out in the tunnel, had to move out the sweetpea they are still in the tunnel no sign of them yet put them under cover in an unheated propagator. The electric one is now on the shelf in the utility room with it's first seeds. Planted some Pheasant Berry seeds from Feverfew, from Clara Munstead Lavender, Duchess mixed Asters, Schizanthus or Angel Wings and finally Linda B's Snow Maiden Verbascum all are sown in seed module trays to hopefully save some of the potting on. Looks like the weather is to be rough for the next few days so housework and some planning will be on the cards. The other day I bought Gardens Illustrated which has good articles on iris, snowdrops, hellebores, plants that will cope with the cold as well as 100 favourite plants was well worth buying. Ducks out on the grass after lunch busy eating the slugs there are 5 drakes and 8 ducks there was quite a battle going on between 2 drakes think this will be a very common occurence for the next while.

Lots of seeds on the cards there, Geraldine. Great photo of the ducks.

Weather for ducks, lovely photo. Sweet Pea take 7-21 days to germinate and they like to be soaked for 24 hours before planting. Enjoy the housework and take time out to read your Gardens Illustrate, a good magazine. Mary

OMG what a day of gales lashing rain at the moment, just heard a thump outside and have lost one of my terracotta pots that was on the basement terrace as it's been blown off and split open on the stone step want to settle down soon or think all my shrubs will be shreded. Off out to teach now won't be finished till around 9pm it's a sort of spooky day for horses on a day like today.

Geraldine it is probably the same in Monaghan as in Carlow. It started quite pleasant but now we have the rain and the wind. There should however be good growth, temperature forecast 11-12  degrees to morrow. I am sure the ducks will enjoy this weather. I have seen two hen pheasants and a cock pheasant entering the back garden but they seem to move away when i go out with the camera.

Geraldine I would love some Scabious blue Buterfly if it's not too much trouble. Thanks so much.
