I was thinking of you this morning Geraldine as I was watching an old gardener's world.  Carol took all the scales one by one from the lily bulbs, this was not going to affect the main bulb.  She then put them in a bag of vermiculite making sure they would not touch.  She then blew into the bag before sealing (no idea) and then put them in the hotpress.   She said in a few months each scale would become a bulb.  Hope this helps.

i would divide them and replant them maybe into pots for planting out next spring as far as i can remember i divided lill bulbs before, once there is some root on each piece they should take. when i do start to do my garden i will dig mine up and divide them

i would divide them. they are very big so you would get loads of beautiful lillies for free.
