Greenfinch 27/12
Weather once again back to being spectacular due to very heavy frost and freezing temperatures -2 was the best this morning and then the fog started closing in again. Went out to see could I get salt to try and defrost the area round the house as it's treacherous but Creamery not open, also wanted to get my tyre fixed on the car as a sharp stone had pierced it but no garage open, however managed to get a pocket book on birds so now have managed to improve my knowledge of what's about. Nowhere open to buy any more feeders so hopefully tomorrow there will be places open. Bird visitors so far Dunnock, Robins, Blackbirds, Rooks, Thrushes, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Wrens, Starlings, Chaffinches and a Greenfinch. Hopefully as I become more knowledgable I'll recognise more and also if there are a few more feeders up. No work at the moment due to weather conditions as it's just too cold and icy conditions make it unsafe to hack out- I don't teach evening lessons until after New Year and courses I had on the next 2 days are cancelled as it wouldn't be safe for people to travel. Mind you any day you can appreciate the beauty in the seasons is a good day. Roll on 2010 and hopefully the brightening days and the new season beginning will get us all going with all the time we've had reading and planning.
