A Nice Collection.

07 February 2017 15:02:20

We went for a visit to a local garden today and came back with a very nice collection of plants. We got three beautiful Leucojum vernum, also known as snowflakes. Two unusual shrubs in the collection were a Camellia transnokoensis and an Irish Oleria macrodonta 'Willie Brady' from Glenveagh. I also came home with a weeping fig and Sparrmannia africana, both tender. I know on the site we often hear about the kindness of gardeners and today I can lend my voice to those sentiments.

Looking forward to seeing them growing into large shrubs and lots of flowering bulbs over the coming years.

Now that is a good haul. I will have to do a Google on Sparmania.

Mary the generosity  of you and Paddy have resulted in lovely plants in many of our gardens.

I just love seeing unusual plants on this site. That species Camellia looks interesting, I had never heard of it and will watch its progress with great interest. Do you think it is hardy enough?

That's a great group of plants and you have plenty of space for them. They will bring you great pleasure as plants but also lovely memory of the giver.

What a great day out you both had, not only meeting up with someone so generous but also to come home with such a lovely selection of plants! I am sure they will all look amazing!

Sparrmannia, a large plant, tender, white flowers, Elizabeth. You might get it through the winter if you had it in a very sheltered spot.

Sean, had a look to see if it was hardy and seems okay in the south of England once established. I will try it outside when it puts on a lot more size and keep it covered for the first few winters.

What goes around, comes around. And that is so applicable to yours and Paddy's generosity. Well-deserved.

No doubt they will thrive with your constant minding.

Always a treat to be given new babies. The previous owners knew they would be going to a good home!
