Christmas Cactus.

17 November 2017 16:42:35

I have a few different coloured Christmas  Cactus which I grow. I bought them a couple of years ago when they were for sale in Lidl as small little plants. The white one has been the first to flower this year. All the others are in bud and hopefully should take me up to Christmas Day.

I just love these robust, tough, non-fussy plants.  I’m sure you all remember form “your  Granny’s house”  the large pots of pink ones that flowered right at Christmas time  and then the pots took up so much space for the rem ainder of the year.  These small ones, coming in so many colours are just lovely. last week  6 of mine all came into flower at once and are a sight to behold.  They are absolutely pot-bound, but still flower their socks off.  My Aunt always said you had to treat them cruelly in summer and let them bake.  Baking up here is not an option.  If only the rain would stop.  Days and weeks and months!

I bought another two in Lidl this morning at €1.99. Margot, great colourful plants for this time of year. My ones spend most of the year in the glasshouse, so don't take up house room after they flower. Thanks for all the nice comments. Good to see you back, Peter.
