A miserable day here in Waterford, but the local herons have been landing in the garden all the morning. If they are visiting in hope of taking fish from the pond they will be disappointed as all the fish have died of old age and they won't be replaced as I only bought them for John when he was a little boy. Photos are dreadful due to all the raindrops on the window and they seem to be a very alert bird.

I love to watch the herons along the shores of Dublin Bay; they always do look alert and watchful.  Maybe yours got fed up out on the cheerless river bank and decided to come and visit a beautiful garden for a little rest.

What a pity about your fish. It must be slim pickings for the herons on the river. Yes, they are very alert, and extremely quick on take-off. So you did well to capture them with the camera.

I love the photos with the raindrop effect.  Hope the Herons will be Flying Out too!

It was nice to have them coming so close to the house yesterday. Not a sign of them today. Thanks, Jackie.

Despite the rain drops , fascinating pictures Mary. Hope all keeping well. We dont want a repeat of last year's cough Paddy! Those herons look so exotic!

You may have to feed the Herons Mary as they have no fish. We have snow here.

Beautiful birds !

We see them often overhead but they haven't landed in the pools yet - good thing too as I'd worry for the liners, not to mention the poor old newts! Jackie's right, that is a very cool hat, too!
