Compost .... from the video

compost 'cone'

compost 'cone'

Someone posted a great video on making compost in 4 weeks from manure and I was very interested as I had a load of cow manure that I didn't know what to do with. Now the video suggested very fresh horse manure but I have last season's cow manure .... judging by the smell, my cow manure is still quite "fresh"!

This morning I decided to give it a go - so the "cone" is made and the calendar has a reminder of when to turn it!

Guess what? the completion day for the manure is the day after my Open Day on 24th June!

Up early on the day to spread it , and am sure it will do wonders for your beautiful garden.

i recon you could do 2 days earlier.

I reckon Andy is right there. 2 days won't make much difference. Keep us posted.

I'll be watching this with interest Hazel as I haven't tried it yet myself.

If it is last years manure, then you can use it now. We have manure that is three and four year old at the homeplace farm and it still smells when you disturb it. The older cow manure gets, the more it looks like black clay and it will be full of worms. otherwise what i am saying the older it is the crumblier it is. God that sounds like the ad for cadburys flake. But you can use last years manure now, if you wish

Ya see, Sean. I knew you were an expert. :)

I LOVE FLAKES!

Oh Dear! Any resemblance between my manure and Cadbury's flake is non-existant! As to crumblier! NO WAY! If its wet it is disgusting and refuses to break apart and it its dry its like concrete! I really begin to wonder what do they feed Laois cows on!!!! LOL

I think I might leave the heap till the Open Day and take the cover off for other compost enthusiasts so we can all learn from my experience!

What ever you do Hazel,   MAKE SURE on your open day, we have the tea and bun's eaten before you open that black plastic LOL!!! if it's anything like what the farmers are spreading around me (I'M SURROUNDED BY FIELD'S) it would knock a horse out with the smell LOL!! i can't put my washing out or open my windows when they spread it, it stink's the place out......LOL!
