Big job done - with help!

The Herbaceous Border below my deck is one big job in Spring to get it cleaned up and tidied. It rebukes me every time I walk past it until I give in and get tidying! It takes nearly a week to get it all done a couple of hours a day but it is well worth it when it is done. There are a number of small early tulips there which really welcome having space to strut their stuff!

Puss takes a great interest when I'm down on my kneeler weeding but the other day I was really amused - I just stood up to empty the bucket of weeds into the wheelbarrow and Puss - the total opportunist - hopped onto the nice warm kneeler!

I think that the weeding of this border is time really well spent - it serves as an encouragement to proceed with the rest of the tidy-up! And next year I will DEFINITELY do the cutting back in the Autumn ......LOL

P.S. The Heathers are out too!

Once you get started and see how nice it becomes it spurs you on. The border looks great and will repay you in the coming months. Lovely to see the heathers.

As usual a great job done and all looks ship shape again. One of our dogs just loves to lie down in whatever Im using, be it a plastic bag, my jumper if its too warm, or the fleece to keep the frost off the plants...any opportunity, so no wonder little Puss was so happy sitting in the warmth of that kneeler! Lovely heathers, something I am really getting into too!!

That's the best position to get the overall view of your lovely garden. And it's a well-filled border. Love it in full summer.

that's a great job done and out of the way. I have slowly been tryng to get stuff done here and there and it makes all the difference. i'm generally too lazy in autumn for it. Lifting tenders and dahlias is enough for me in autumn

i don't even have that excuse in Autumn, Peter! I lift very little :-)

Great job Hazel, and so satisfying to get it finished.  I see we use the same kneeling pad from that very posh shop we all know about :-)

Its a willow Joan. Salix Alba Chermesina. It is a lighter stem than some of the willows and is used in basket-making too.

The kneeling pad is essential! I have it for years and the original pad isn't thick enough for my deteriorating knees so I have anothe pad tied on to it and it works a treat!
