Can't believe I haven't posted in over a week - and now I have the nerve to ask for a plant ID!

This little plant - I think it will eventually be a shrub - came home with me from Johnstown. It has a very clear label saying "Hazel" but that is all! Could the donor please identify (a) who they are and (b) What is the plant called?

The patio is coming along but the place is still pretty much a building site but at least we are on the home stretch!

In between doing errends for the builders, catering fro them and the general state of the place I haven't been feeling very garden focussed but first Monty Don and then our local Garden Club leader advised that this is the right time to take slips or cuttings. So there was nothing for it but to clamber over the debris and escape into the greenhouse where all my equipment for taking cuttings are kept.

So all the salvias I have now have backup cuttings - and so Jack Frost can do his worst and I should still have these pretty plants! And someone asked me for a piece of my Rosemary - so it is among the cuttings too.

Following the advice of the Gurus the cutting are residing under the staging to keep them from getting overheated! So here goes !!!!

I feel like I should know what those cuttings are. But sadly.......

Hopefully your builders will be finished and out of there before you are driven to distraction.Still plenty for you to be doing in the meantime.

The flowers look a lot like a shrub-type Eupatorium 'Chocolate' that I have here. But the leaves aren't the right colour. A different variety perhaps?

No Idea what your plants is .....sorry!!

I too have been busy taking cuttings, in fact WAY too many!! I took some cutting so my Sambuca nigra, 'black lace' only about 2 weeks ago and now I have six lovely new plants! My Fatsia are doing fantastically too and they were literally just plunged into some soil. Also doing well are some Heuchera and Salvia too. Dont you just love it all! I see you have yours in plastic. I never do anything like that. I take the cutting and stick them in the pot with compost and wait! Seems to work for me, I never bother with the plastic! Good luck with them I am sure they will be fantastic. Glad to hear the patio is coming to the end now too, excellent! cant wait to see photos when its done!

Jackie - I think my garden's lack of shelter means I need to give the cuttings a better chance! You have the true "green fingers" of a gardener the way that cutting take for you!

Jacinta - don't think its a Eupatorium - the leaves are totally wrong - these leaves are shiny and quite narrow.

Yes of course Hazel. I wasn't thinking of that. As regards 'green fingers' lol I think it's more luck and ignorance ;)

Ageratina ligustrina, I think Hazel. Does it have a 'smell' not a scent? However, I like how it smells.

I haven't noticed Mary! I'll have a sniff tomorrow :-) It looks very like it anyway!

Now I just have to figure out who gave it to me at Johnstown!!!!

I've seen that shrub in gardens and often wondered what it was, so thanks for posting Hazel. I find that cuttings covered with plastic usually do better than those without, except for plants that like dry conditions like rosemary and lavender. You've reminded me that there are plants I intended to take cuttings of but haven't done it yet, so must get a move on before it's too late. I have taken some, but more to do!

Oh Lord when I hear of cuttings I always hum "I shudda done some, I shudda done some, I shudda done some !' All I do is Rosemary! oh and sage!

Oh Dear! Must take the Rosemary cuttings out of the plastic tomorrow!
