Sharing Photos through the site

I'll try and keep this as short and simple as possible - please feel free to ask questions if I've missed anything.

1. You need to have your photos saved in "the cloud" - that means using something like Google Drive, One Drive, iCloud or Dropbox but there are many others also. These are places you can back up your photos so you can access them from a phone or someone else's computer.

2. Arrange the photos in folders - each folder will be an "album" once you share it. Don't make one folder inside another because that will make it harder for people to  view the photos.

3. This instruction is for Google Drive but there will be something similar on the others - Right-Click on the folder name you want to share and choose "Share". A new window will open up looking something like Picture 1.

4. Click "Copy Link". If you don't have that option then select the link and copy it (CTRL C does it)

5. If you don't have "Word" or "Open Office" on your computer you can just paste (CTRL V)  that link into a journal but it may not be "clickable" and people may have to copy the link to their browser to see the album.

6. Open Word (or Open Office Word) and choose "Hyperlink" from the "INSERT" Menu  and paste the link in the "Address" box  (or "Target" box)  You should see a box like Picture 2.

7. Where it says "Text to Display" (or "text") type in the title you want for your Album and then Click "OK" (or APPLY).

8. Your link should now look like the name of the album you typed. You can copy this entire link into a journal and it should be a "clickable" link.

Click the pictures to see more clearly what is going on. Give it a go and let me know how you get on!

Oh Dear!   I'm in way over my head now.

Take it one step at a time, Jacinta!

Jackie Jackie 14 November 2017 22:34:43

Thanks for that Hazel  I’ve used this a few times but not on this site. I do hope the new site is more user friendly as promised. I’m surprised it’s taking so long to resolve!

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 15 November 2017 01:29:07

Ah Jackie! Its not a case of resolve - its a case of a new development and a small team so it just takes a lot of time to get it all right!Having worked in that environment in the past I totally support the guys in taking their time to get it right!

Obviously it does work , Hazel. Congratulations on working it out. But where is the advantage over pitting an album direcyly on the site?

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 15 November 2017 13:32:43

Peter - at the moment many of us are having difficulties loading albums on the site so that is why I suggested this temporary work-around to tide us over until the new site is launched. Are you able to load albums? If so, you are one of the lucky ones!

PCON PCON 15 November 2017 13:57:42

Have not loaded for quite a while. Will try again. Never could load from iPad and had trouble with laptop when I bought a new one with Windows 10. Windows XP never gave any problems, so I suppose the site was set up on that. Most browsing is done on iPad. Might wait for the upgrade. I notice a lot of members have disappeared this year.

Jacinta D Jacinta D 15 November 2017 14:23:00

I loaded an album from The Botanic Gardens in October. The only thing was, the portrait photos came out landscape. I might try to upload an album later today.

PCON PCON 15 November 2017 23:10:24

Photos will always come out sideways if you take them in portrait orientation, Jacinta. Take them all in landscape, and then crop them to size or shape, if required. If using an iPhone or iPad, keep the home button on the right, otherwise they will be upside down

Jacinta D Jacinta D 16 November 2017 03:49:40

Yea, but they used to come out right regardless of their settings. I don't use my phone and I don't have an iPad. I use my laptop for downloading. This problem has only come about in about the last two years or less.

TheH (Hazel) TheH (Hazel) 16 November 2017 11:05:44

A Jacinta! You live in the Microsoft world as do I! We have much less problems with photo orientation than that Apple crowd LOL

Jackie Jackie 16 November 2017 13:25:16

Unfortunately it’s the site is the problem regardless of what platform you use. Looking forward to getting it up and running soon .
