My favourite plant lives

My favourite plant lives

Tree ferns are my favourite plants, and my favourite among them is one called the Beast, due to being almost too wide in girth to put your arms around (It is called hugging Fran). Anyway great is my joy to say that the croziers are rising. she lives.  :-)

Three cheers for the Tree Fern - and I won't be surprised if the rest do well either.  Great news.

Ternie Ternie 07 May 2010 20:28:27

what are tree ferns?

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 20:34:08

HEE HEE. God help us. Have you told Deborah about your weird inclinations, Martin? I hope Fran never gets to meet you. ha ha.

I would agree with you, though, Martin. Tree ferns would be uppermost on my list too.

Ternie Ternie 07 May 2010 20:42:55

I googled tree fern and wonder, if they are growing outdoor in Ireland! They are only for greenhouses here.

Myrtle Myrtle 07 May 2010 21:17:24

I think they are really lovely too, but very expensive to buy if you want a big one. But if I had a big garden I would definitly want one.

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 21:18:44

Or 9!!!!

Rachel Rachel 07 May 2010 21:40:47

I bet all your tree ferns recover now and you just after buying new ones : )

It's like lighting up a cigarette when you're waiting for the bus. As soon as you light it, the bus comes : )

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 21:42:06

Didn't know you were a smoker, Rachel?

It used to happen to me all the time, until I bought a car!!!!!

Rachel Rachel 07 May 2010 21:42:53

I'm not. It's just a saying!

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 21:43:48

Great to see new growth on your  tree ferns

I have spent months saying, "never give up on plants". While I know there were losses, but plants are stronger than we think, they have been around a long time, and will be around long after we are gone.

Great news, Martin, really happy for you. You will enjoy this plant all the more now.

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 21:56:27

Pants?      :)

Rachel Rachel 07 May 2010 21:56:47

Between Martin and his trainers and Fran and his pants, you deserve each other!

J.D. J.D. 07 May 2010 21:57:53

Good correction, Fran. Hee hee.

Opps ................ human after all.

Thanks for your coments and jokes. Most of our tree ferns are dead there were a few that we were hopeful of and one of them has come through. Hi Ternie Dicksonia antarctica is hardy to minus 10 centigrade and about 8 years ago we had that and the ferns came through, however this year we got minus 11.1 and it must have been too much for them, some were more sheltered and might pull through.
