Cleaning up the compost

Cleaning up the compost

Here is a picture that I took today. I was shovelling the compost into the tray on the right and this would sieve out all the rubbish and leave me with beautiful stuff to scatter on the garden after each bit is tidied up. See how much rubbish is in the crate,  I get this amount out of every wheelbarrow load

OOps I meant the tray on the left is what I use as a sieve the holes are about half an inch square

Oh I can smell its richness from here. Job well done, Martin. But mind you don't overdo things! Rome wasn't built in a day!!!!!

As Fran says black gold. Do you shred the leftovers then or what do you do with them Martin?

Dick Dick 01 January 2011 19:37:46

Great job looks fab, I must really organise a compost area as mine was removed earlier this year.

Rachel there is never enough. Hosta the rubbish comprises of stones, twigs and bits of plastic, so some for the bin and some for the ditch. I might be putting in a raised fern bed tomorrow and if so then I use it all and only top dress in the finer stuff. How long ago Dick. Geraldine I hope that you will not need to scramble over two of them to get to the third, I will not have to do any mountain training this year for the annual climb. Thanks you Fran and Jacinta keep the faith.

great stuff, martin! I'm afraid I put mine out unsieved, but I haven't had any complaints so far! I remember that ad too, it was for Cheno Unction, whatever that was.
