Ladybird Ladybird 06 January 2011 19:03:36

I think it is Ivor.

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 19:03:37

Eh what's the prize?

Would the answer be Kindredspirit, by any chance?

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 19:04:53

Ladybird, Ivor is Scottish. I don't think Martin is!  :)

Ladybird Ladybird 06 January 2011 19:11:13

I know from his journals he has a sister living in Scotland with a beautiful garden.

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 19:12:11

Is the name 'Ivor' not Scottish? Or is it Welsh?

Ladybird Ladybird 06 January 2011 19:17:26

I have a grandson with a scottish name but he is irish!

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 19:19:43

Ha ha ok point taken, Ruth. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Ladybird Ladybird 06 January 2011 19:24:20

As long as the prize is good!!

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 19:25:16

Like one of Martin's big tree ferns in his polytunnel. Hee hee!

Ivor Ivor 06 January 2011 20:02:04

1) You would never catch me up a mountain.  Although I did climb to the top of the Sugar Loaf once back in the early seventies.  Got badly sunburnt too.

2) My surname McClintock is Irish I say, we just lent it to the Scots for 500 years.

3) Ivor is indeed Welsh.  (Half prize to Jacinta)

4) Both myself and the Sis are genuine Dubs.  (from D4 just to brag) I blew down to Carlow, northeasterly wind and Val took the prevailing Southwesterly.

5) Is the answer "Headgardner"

fran m fran m 06 January 2011 20:27:21

Kindrespirit, and he put up some of the wooden arches, with the chalk writing that irked Martin so much. Well done Jacinta.

J.D. J.D. 06 January 2011 20:29:14

Nobody said I won, Fran.

MartinB MartinB 06 January 2011 21:03:31

It did not irk me at all Fran, I was only fooling with him.

fran m fran m 06 January 2011 21:05:37

Ah well, maybe next time............

AitAlainn AitAlainn 06 January 2011 22:10:35

Martin didn't say that the two brothers were his brothers!

MartinB MartinB 06 January 2011 22:48:50

Nuala if I was being cryptic then I would say there were 5 sons there and not 2. Sorry about your phormiums. I had two lines of defence from the wind from the west, the second was my boundary hedge and the first was the neighbours until the farmer on the other side cut it to the ground a couple of years ago. He died last year. It is so important to keep out the wind. The winner of the competition will be announced tomorrow evening as I have not got time tonight. Could my brother be fran  or pcon or gerry with numbers?

Wellie Wellie 06 January 2011 23:04:24

Is that you with the snazzy odd socks Martin?

kindredspirit kindredspirit 07 January 2011 06:24:56

Moral: Don't mess with MartinB!

J.D. J.D. 07 January 2011 06:33:00

Hee hee

MartinB MartinB 07 January 2011 09:00:50

Yes Wellington and thank you. I have two pairs like that and it often takes me a while to decide which pair to wear. Yes the answer is Kindred, a name that he picked as being the name of his boat.

'I look at each pair,

now which shall I wear,

less my feet are left bare,

but do you lot care?'

MartinB MartinB 07 January 2011 09:04:11

Oh Jacinta what do you want as a prize?

HeadGardener HeadGardener 07 January 2011 11:45:16

Can,t wait to see what Jacinta won, should I be concerned or flattered that Ivor thought  Martin and I were related!! maybe it's the mutual love of sarcastic wit :-)

unagrant unagrant 07 January 2011 11:51:07

You lot make me laugh out loud.

MartinB MartinB 07 January 2011 12:07:47

Hi Bill and Una, it might be more baby tree ferns. I am putting up anothe quiz

Dick Dick 07 January 2011 12:56:49

Martin, you gave me no time to answer. I would have answered Kindredspirit as he is from Co Limerick and gave us that interesting picture of you on your wedding day.

Rachel Rachel 07 January 2011 14:33:14

Jeez, Bill, you never told me you were Matin's brother.

J.D. J.D. 07 January 2011 15:18:26

I thought of the possible connection with Kindred when he put up some photos of his 'ice sculpture' in Nov/Dec and remembered your brilliant one last year, Martin. I will let you decide on my prize. :)  I will love it, no matter what it is. Thanks a million.

HeadGardener HeadGardener 07 January 2011 16:18:53

Nobody told me either Rachel!! :-)

Ivor Ivor 07 January 2011 22:00:26

No offence I hope Bill.  The guy on the left in the pic has a very similar hairstyle ( term "style" used very loosely) and is tall like yourself.  You came first into my mind.  Then maybe I just need new specs. No offence either to Martin I hope, but then you are related to all the guys in the pic.  No, now I'm getting mixed up.  Super comment chat, it must nearly be a record with all the hits. Do I count 29 to date.  Go on do another one....

fran m fran m 07 January 2011 22:06:15

Just to boost the numbers, I will tell you the record is over the hundred, so a long way yet.

MartinB MartinB 07 January 2011 23:12:23

thanks for taking part Ivor. they are tall, I used to measure 6 feet and they seem to drown me in the picture.

HeadGardener HeadGardener 08 January 2011 00:01:50

No offence at all Ivor :-) and I think I'd have to be drinking tomato feed to reach over 5ft 11 let alone 6ft !!  Who has the record Fran I suspect it may be you ?

Rachel Rachel 08 January 2011 00:07:34

No, Bill, the record is held by Chewbacca, the Wookie. Check out my second last journal.

fran m fran m 08 January 2011 06:30:01

Bill, I think Rachel holds the record, it was a journal on a get together I think, it just when on and on, a second journal was then opened up as it took ages to scroll down through it.

MartinB MartinB 15 January 2011 09:51:58

Hi again from this journal which I found thanks to Fran. You are a good teacher  Fran. I am learning excel at the moment, lucky that my teacher is one on a cd. What I wanted to say was about my socks in the picture. I was sorting odd socks that Pennys gave me, and finding the matches and sending them out to the poor of the world, well when I needed to climb Slieve Donard I found that I had no walking socks so I took two that I could not match, which is something that I would not have insulted the poor of the world with.
