Did you sprinkle Holy Water on them first?
Had them four years, bought them more or less that size from homebase. Kindred !
Didn't know Homebase sold tree ferns that big. Can I ask how much you paid for them, Martin?

We paid a fiver each, end of season reduced from thirty five each
