My Grandfather

My Grandfather

My grandfather was a great gardener and his garden still lives though his son, my uncle, who tended it has gone to the great beyond too earlier this year, another generation has stepped in. This picture taken in the 1930 s in Croom Co. Limerick was only discovered and sent to me today after lying in a dusty draw all these years. Yay

What a lovely photograph to have in your store of fond memories, Martin. And the 'black and whites' or 'sepia' are just the best!

You coming up to see the half finished Pergola? I've run out of wood and run out of money, so it's on stop at the mo'.

aw Martin I did'nt know you had a sentimental side... looks like your grandad had a ready supply of manure too :-)  is'nt funny when we get older how intrested we become in our families past.. found out recently that my great grandad came from Clare..

MartinB MartinB 23 May 2011 13:14:41

Hi Bill, I came from a very poor family. He was only holding the horse fot the picture. I believe that some of my forebears were English, don't know what to do about that.

Ah At last Ive solved one mystery. Martin B and Deborah are the one and the same!!! Light breaks through...but ever so slowly for Scrubber. I have you both down as friends and only tonight on reading fran's journal (Always a dangerous thing to do) it dawned on me. But please tell me was it tags or togs you lost and how. Or is it an in joke that I am missing?.

That was a lovely photo. You were so lucky to get it. My grandfather worked as a groomsman in the old Ballykisteen Stud.Monard Co Tipperary (Now an Hotel) and my furthest back memory and my only one of him is being led around on a horse in a shed when I was about three or even less! And that was quite some time ago.
