Musk Mallow.

Musk Mallow.

Malva moschata or Musk Mallow is flowering for the last few weeks. It is a perennial easily grown from seed. It likes moist soil and will tolerate some shade. It is apparently an edible plant but I have'nt tried it.

I have never grown it Brigette, but the soil here tends to be very dry so perhaps I wont plant it here.

I have this musk mallow in white and pink and its been a joy - flowering for weeks and weeks, mine is nearly finished flowering now.  I have them planted in a mix of soil, some baked dry this summer I admit - it copes, just doesn't grow so high I've found.  Lovely!

I have the pink/mauve one - it seems to be self-seeding all around the place! I had a problem identifying it last year (I'd lost the label and forgottent hat I planted it!) and I wrote to "Ask Gerry" who identified it and warned me that it was a bit of a thug .... but a very pretty thug :-)
