Transplanting Fruit Bushes

Transplanting Fruit Bushes

We have 2 large fruit bushes in the new garden that we need to move, i know its probably the wrong time of year but i was wondering if it would be possible to do this now and what would be the best way to go about it, the fruit bushes are both current bushes, about 6 years old and are about 4ft x 4ft, any info would be most welcome as we would really like to hold on to these plants and move them into the new fruit cage!

Spring time is the best time to transplant fruit bushes. And the smaller ones establish themselves quicker than larger ones. You may have to sacrifice fruit for this year, but next year they should fruit their socks off.

I agree with Jacinta, they should be fine to move Dave, just dig the hole where their going into first and add plenty of farmyard manure if you have it then dig them up with as much of the rootball as you can and transfer them straight away (dont leave them to dehydrate) then plant them in their new home and water really well and continue to water well for the next 2/3 months and they'll be fine you might even get a harvest out of them this year.

I moved raspberry and gooseberries on Saturday into the raised beds in the kitchen garden I had planted them about 5 years ago in what was to be a temporary bed hope they will like their new place.

Thanks folks, will be delighted to be able to hold onto these as they have sentimental value apart from being a good size and and great croppers!!
