The next job on my list is to plant up this bed. It used to be 'Rapunzel's Forest' because it was that thorny with dense Rosa rugosa but I cleared it last year and laid plastic membrane on the area by the beginning of July.
We then had to dig up the whole area for maintenance (don't remind me) at the end of September and the large bushes to the left were removed and re-planted after the work was done. They all made it through winter, thank goodness.
I covered the area in membrane again in September (after the work) although soil may have been re-distributed so it's not like the whole area was covered in plastic from July until now.
About a week ago hubby took the membrane off and sprayed it. There was scutch grass poking up but the spray has withered it. I wonder should I wait a few weeks to see if anything else pokes up before planting? There had been a big scutch grass problem back in 'Rapunzel Forest' days. Now what will I plant?
