Interesting Seedling

Interesting Seedling

I have a feeling I'm going to regret asking this but...

Does anyone know what this pretty seedling is? It has popped up in a couple of places in my garden.

It looks like a tree seedling maybe...

Interesting. Don't know what it is. But I am sure you will be keeping an eye on it.

Not a clue Rachel but time will tell if you let it grow.

Perish the thought! Pretty sure its a sycamore tree.

Hizzy Hizzy 21 May 2010 08:48:26

Looks like a sycamore tree alright, have oodles of them here. Am worn out trying to pick them all!

HeadGardener HeadGardener 21 May 2010 09:48:10

Brigette that is soooo not funny !!! :-)  Hizzy dont have a sycamore in my garden but that one down the road is being eyes with suspision now!!

Rachel Rachel 21 May 2010 09:56:47

Brigitte, you horror! Actually I was having a nervous breakdown a few days ago when I thought I had Japanese knotwood on my hill. But I don't think it's that at all now.

Alison, I think it is a sycamore seedling. They are supposed to spread easily, aren't they? I'll take a peak over the hill at my neighbour's trees later today!

Drumanagh Drumanagh 21 May 2010 10:03:37

It seems to be a good year for tree seedlings. Every pot I brought from my old garden seems to have an apple seedling in it from the big old apple tree. Getting a little notstalgic now!

LindaB LindaB 21 May 2010 12:01:59

There is a sycamore tree in our hedge and have thousands of sycamore trees coming up every year.  I am constantly pulling them up!  You are lucky you only have one!

BRENMAR BRENMAR 21 May 2010 13:43:09

Delighted that you had your seedling identified, I just had a look at your May garden photographs, they are fab.  I love your tulip "Flaming Parrot"  and I remember seeing it in your garden last year and intending to get one, of course I didn't, but I will now.  I think this has been a great year for blossoms and that is very evident in your lovely garden.

Gismo1981 Gismo1981 21 May 2010 15:26:10

I have about 100 or sycamore seedlings in my garden from nearby trees. A lot of them are going to the compost heap. Garden too small for them.  It does look like mine.

fran m fran m 21 May 2010 16:45:33

Sycamore for sure, sirrounded by them at home. It is also know as the weed of trees, for the number of seedlings that grow from one tree.

fraoch fraoch 21 May 2010 21:20:32

Yes and they grow pretty big too.

Rachel Rachel 21 May 2010 22:08:43

Linda, I have more than one - maybe 5 seedlings. I will weed them tomorrow.

Brenmar, what lovely compliments you have given me. You are really too kind. I do love tulips but don't have so many this year except for the circle.

Guys, those seedlings are going down!

fran m fran m 21 May 2010 22:16:03

5 of them, Rachel I took about 40 last weekend, out of the back bed. There must another 40 this evening.

HeadGardener HeadGardener 21 May 2010 23:48:28
