For better or worse, I started planting up my annuals bed today. I'm not sure this was the cleverest idea as I may need to cover it with fleece tonight as there may be frost!
I planted 23 sunflowers - 13 'Earth Walker' in a row at the back and two groups of five 'Claret'. They look silly tied to proper stakes now but they should grow into them. I then planted 72 Helichrysum (straw flowers). The Helichrysum was grown from seed I collected last year and I favoured the orange hues. Time will tell if that has made any difference to the colour flowers I get.
I am planting closer together than last year as it should mean fewer gaps and less weeding and staking.
