The F Word

26 May 2010 19:23:24

It really is hard to believe that there will be frost tonight.

But, just in case... I covered my newly planted Helichrysum with fleece and some of the sunflowers. It was too difficult to cover all of the sunflowers and besides, they're hardy annuals and I was getting very bored!

I also fleeced the two Cobaea I've planted out and my Brugmansia, which is now living in the West Garden. Actually I think it looks quite elegant - like a Grecian statue.

Better to be safe than sorry Rachel. I've taken in all my window boxes and hanging baskets. There's a risk of frost tomorrow night too i think. Its hard to believe there's still a risk of frost so late in May.

When I saw the picture I thought the same, I ran out and put all my pots back into the green house when the F word was mentioned.

I hope I have not started a panic here. Hopefully there will be no frost.

Liga, I never heard that before. I should put water on the leaves of frosted plants?

Lìga Lìga 27 May 2010 07:26:16

Yes,you pour water all over plant.Of course it won't help if was very hard frost.

I hope there was no frost. I was faced with a dilema last weekend. I knew to close the doors of the greenhouse would make it too warm for two or three days, but to leave the doors  open might be too cold at night, so I left them half open. Hope ther is no damage.

I thought you were going to wait until June to plant stuff outdoors this year!!!

Rachel Rachel 27 May 2010 19:46:21

We had no frost last night. 7.2 inside the greenhouse so maybe 5 outside.

Barbara, you really do have a lot to think about when you only garden on the weekend. Irish weather is very tricky this year.

I was, Bill, but woman's prerogative!
