RHS Shortlisted Plants

Cypripedium flavum white-flowered

Cypripedium flavum white-flowered

Although Martin thinks I should go to bed, I am quite excited by what I saw at Chelsea today (on telly of course). I really love the new RHS 'Plant of the Year' idea so had a look at the plants that were shortlisted. These have got to be the height of gardening fashion. I wonder how many of these plants our friends at Chelsea will come back with!

Incidentally, the Streptocarpus came first, the Gaura second and the Cypripidium third. I so want a Cypripidium.

Aubergine 'Scorpio' (Solanum melongena)

Impatiens 'Masquerade'

Nepenthes spathulata × spectabilis

Nepenthes 'Bill Bailey' (Nepenthes ventricosa × singalana)

Iris 'Impressions de Jouy'

Iris 'Rose de la Vallée'

Rosa PRINCESS ANNE ('Auskitchen')

Streptocarpus 'Harlequin Blue'

Geum 'Totally Tangerine'

Gaura lindheimeri 'Ruby Ruby'

Rosa CLAIRE MARSHALL ('Harunite')

Lilium 'Chelsea'

Digitalis 'Serendipity'

Cypripedium flavum white-flowered

Heuchera 'Sugar Plum'

Dahlia 'Ian Hislop'

Viola Balconita Series

Ophiopogon planiscapus BLACK BEARD ('Yapard')

Gerbera jamesonii 'Landscape'

Buddleja davidii Buzz Series

I would have to agree with you!! Cypripedium flavum would get my vote too!!!!!

Having read your journal I went down to the greenhouse so fast to get my Streptocarpus out of it as it only needs a cool and out of direct sunlight.  I googled it and now am going to look after it the proper way.

Good luck with the outcome for all the R.H.S Shortlisted plants Rachel.

Interesting list! But some are not for me as they are not hardy. I had a lovely Gaura last year but sadly gone.

Rachel Rachel 27 May 2010 19:50:00

Watch out there, Bill, you don't want to fall behind on the coverage : )

Liga, the Nepenthes is lovely. Four is my limit though. Maybe eventually I will replace my 2 ventrata for something prettier but I am okay for the minute. I actually don't want to grow any that are more fussy than what I have at the moment. It is too much in the summer when you have the garden to contend with too.

Rachel Rachel 27 May 2010 19:53:05

Clare, I had to laugh at your comment about streptocarpus. I think this site is a divil for making us all look more closely at forgotten or unloved plants. I hope your streptocarpus repays your care : )

My absolute favourite was foxglove serendipity , beautifuL!!!

Rachel Rachel 27 May 2010 22:19:53

I love that foxglove too, Mary. It was gorgeous. I'm busy growing Pam's Split from seed at the minute (last year's Chelsea favourite) but I'm thinking Serendipity is prettier.
