Crinum capense Powelli longifolium
Hurray! That's a win, folks.
Glad I had a part to play in that!! That is great news Rachel, when are you going to look at your Tree Ferns????
Well done Rachel. Thats a great result. Good to see that some things have survived over the winter.
Brilliant. Did you keep them over-wintering in the greenhouse or outside?
Yes, Linda. Thanks for the straw : )
I will check the tree ferns tomorrow. If I get the courage... maybe.
Thanks, L
Outside, Jacinta. Look at the two previous journal pics.
Great job to have them survive congratulations to everyone involved in the operation.
Well done, great that it worked.
Is it alive then Rachel?? Checked my tree ferns two weeks ago hairy and hard... so fingers crossed, also tetrapanax survived outside as did my two Musa Basjoo all that effort prtecting them paid off... dug up some casualties though also :-(
Thats great news Rachel. Good luck with the tree ferns.
Yep, alive.
That's good news about your plants, Bill. My Musa basjoo lost its trunk again. It was in the greenhouse, sunk in the border and covered in straw.
Are you going to keep them covered at night to protect against frost or will they be okay at this stage?
Well done it pays off to give things that extra protection.
Well, two of my tree ferns are dead and I'm not sure about the other two : (
Rachel did the gardener at the garden they visited not say to give up hope on the tree ferns even if they were mushy. It must be heartbreaking to lose these plants and especially with all the care you've given them to try and get them through the winter.
It's okay, Geraldine. I am resigned. I will leave them for a few months but one is actually bubbling in the crown. The thing is, I did everything I could to keep them. If I had been lazy or lackadaisical then I would recriminate myself. The lesson I draw is that I will not be buying more tree ferns.
Rachel I'm gutted for you. That's a real shame, especialy after putting the work in to keep them alive.
Ah Rachel thats not good news you have me worried now I'll have to go check mine again..
