Bud Freeze

Camellia japonica 'Wisley White'

Here we all are, back again after the site outage.

I am cheating slightly for St Patrick's Day as I'm putting up a Camellia photo of one that I bought recently. I took it out of the glasshouse yesterday and planted it in the garden. Most blooms on my Camellias have suffered from bud freeze/burn this year so I will have very few flowers.

As the Camellia is in my garden since yesterday, I'll pretend that the flowers aremy success. More photos in the March album.

Looks good Rachel. I would have a problem growing Camellias here as it is a limestone area and I have known for years that Camellias are acid loving.

Is bud freeze on Camellias where you have plenty of buds but not one opening up? I have a pot grown Camellia on the patio with about 20 large buds but not even 1 flower? I gave it a top dress of ericaceous compost the other day but am not sure that will help or hinder?

I am happy to have acid soil, Dick. I love rhodos too.

It is exactly that, Noelle. I have a few Camellia flowers but mostly the buds are hard and blackened. I have a slightly tender Rhododendron in the glasshouse and this is my second year to get bud freeze on it. I've only had the poor thing two and a half years so I've never even seen it's flowers. Annoying.
