Eythronium dnes-canis 'White Splendour'

My youngest called me over to the garden bench this afternoon, all excitied that he had found a flower (they get €1 for spotting first flowers in spring).

Sure enough, it was the dog's tooth violet. What a little cutie.

Started laying more mulch.

Lovely flower and well spotted. How is your Tea plant doing Rachel? I remember you putting up a journal entry about it last year and was wondering how it was doing this year.

Myrtle Myrtle 24 March 2011 20:23:03

Unusual and nice.

Rachel Rachel 24 March 2011 20:27:16

New for me too, Fran.

The tea plants came indoors for winter, Liam, so they are doing well. They are between 1ft and 2ft now but no sign of flowers.

Thanks, Myrtle.

Dick Dick 24 March 2011 20:31:31

New one for me too Rachel. Have you many of them?

Hosta Hosta 24 March 2011 20:34:52

Oh thats lovely, both the flower and the foliage. Well done, they can be a bit difficult to get going.

Rachel Rachel 24 March 2011 20:42:04

Just three, Dick. Two are in flower.

I didn't know that, Margaret. Just as well I didn't know it. I might have been discouraged from trying. No sign of my Trilliums  this year. But they can grow roots the first year and not appear so maybe next year...

My stalks are coming up - waiting waiting - my flowers are pink.  I have to say wonderful growth this year.   How are your dodecatheon seedlings doing Rachel?  I'm over the moon with mine!

Rachel Rachel 25 March 2011 08:43:38

Dead chuffed with my dodec seedlings too, Sally : ) Isn't growing things so fun? Also with the Pulsatilla vulgaris. I had to make two sowings for them but now I have sturdy little seedlings. I wonder will they both be confused and flower in autumn this year! Both are in the greenhouse (again) now. I brought all germinated seeds into the kitchen to keep an eye on them for a few weeks.
