Day Away

27 March 2011 02:15:06

I spent the day away from the garden but got this photo first thing this morning before leaving.

These are the 'spent' Hyacinths, which I plant outdoors every year after flowering in the house.

Some have seen better days but they still put on a good show.

Poor glasshouse only got closed up, in the dark, at 1am when we got back. Lucky it's a mild night.

You were obviously on your stomach while taking that photo. Hope  you put a blanket on the ground. :)   I have just done that with all my spent hyacinths down in the new Acid Triangle. I can smell them from here. MMMMMmmmmmmmm!

They look great-- it would be such a pity to discard them after they flower indoors when they are capable of putting on a show like this :-)

I've been doing that with my indoor hyacinths, for 20 years, Rachel. Out near my front gate. They keep coming up, year after year, and providing scent, enve when disturbed at other times. Do the same with the hydrangeas, you can buy in flower around Easter time.

It seems like we are all doing the same thing with our Hyacinths.

I think I prefer the white ones too, Fran.

And pot mums of course too, Peter.
