Giant Alliums

Giant Alliums

Giant Alliums

It lashed rain here today. It was a good excuse for a day off. Besides, the muscles in my hands were acting funny since I clipped the ditch with the shears. The child-safety on the slug pellets defeated me last night, because of the muscle problem, and I had to get my teenager to open it. I'm fine now though. Hubbie says you need to know how to hold the shears properly.

My giant alliums have finally deigned to flower. Are they always so late, I wonder? The ordinary ones have come and gone by now. You can see some white alliums still in flower in the photo. Most of the giant ones were bent in the wind but it looks like they're going to flower anyway on their bent-double stems!

Another thing that's bugging me is why my delphiniums are so disappointing. I grew them from seed and the flowers are very insignificant - nothing like the fabulous blooms featured in the latest Irish Garden. You can see one of mine in flower in my June 09 album - hardly worth the bother. I did buy two Delphinium 'camelliard' this year and they look gorgeous in the photo so I just hope they turn out like the picture.

I added plenty of new pictures today to my albums.

Hey Rachel, just looking at your latest picture of your pond. Who built the bridge? The whole look of the pond is very oriental. It's a much better picture than the earlier ones. This one does it more justice. Gorgeous.

Rachel Rachel 17 June 2009 22:04:51

Thanks, Michelle & Jacinta. Your praise is praise indeed, Jacinta, considering you are the Pond Queen. The story of the bridge was in the September issue of the irish Garden - you can read it on line here...http://www.garden.ie/article.aspx?id=737 The pond is only tiny but is really maturing now. Not bad since I don't even have any fish.

Your photos really show the results of all the hours you work in your garden. It's beautiful. I am looking out of the window at my (mostly) wilderness, and trying to imagine it when it has had a bit more TLC. Your pictures are spurring me on!

Jacinta Jacinta 17 June 2009 22:34:18

Rachel, I was just looking through your new photos, I think your delphiniums are fantastic, I have never had flowers on mine because the slugs get them first! Your garden is looking super - & just to add you have certainly spurred me on!!!

I am somewhat overwhelmed by all your kind words and don't know what to say. Thank you. Big Noel, that is a lovely thing to say - certainly the best compliment my garden has ever had.
