Zachary's Iris

Zachary's Iris

It's very windy here today.

I've had two trees down so far - a birch from the drive and an apple tree.

It was great fun pushing them back up and staking them in the wind.

I removed a few sods from the new area but then scurried indoors to catch the Chelsea coverage.

It's so wonderful to have so much Chelsea coverage - between lunch time TV, evening time and 'on the red button', I think there is 11 hours lined up for us lucky gardeners this week.

I love that Erythronium 'Hidcote Beauty' that was featured at lunch time but had to laugh at Dermot's flying pink shed :D

What channel is the live coverage on Rachel?

Rachel Rachel 23 May 2011 14:25:17

BBC1 at lunch time. Both BBC1 & BBC2 this evening.

Darn I don't know how I missed that, very windy here too my wheelie bins were knocked over during the night so I had my rubbish swirling around the garden this morning.  Yeuch!  Thought I'd stay in then and do housework, but can't really remember how?

Hope your trees will be ok, Rachel. I have 3 large branches down on the shrub border from a giant Ash! To dangerous to go outside to investigate the damage. Hope it improves enough for that later.

Rachel Rachel 23 May 2011 22:55:02

We'll have to see what happens with the trees. The poor birch tree has been over a couple of times in the last year or so :(

Lìga Lìga 23 May 2011 22:58:07

Couple times?!Ah,so sorry.Hope all will be ok.

ladygardener ladygardener 23 May 2011 23:10:37

You know your comment about the tree having gone over a couple of times makes me think;  I had a journal about european v's japanese larch last month and I remarked that though beautiful the european could break your heart in the wind.  Today the european larches are bent over again and I think I'll just remove them.

Enjoyed the chelsea coverage was delighted to see gunnera feature so prominantly in the large display gardens, and of course rhodo's.
