Tombrick with Hosta

Tombrick with Hosta

I am pleased to say I had a visit today from Margaret (Hosta).

After a spell at mine, we took a trip to the Tombrick Garden which is near here.

It was lovely to have someone to natter with as we wandered around the gardens. It was a super day and the scent from Dianthus 'Mrs Sinkins' wafted through the air. Note to self : find seed for next year!

Hosta certainly lived up to her name , proving quite the expert on her namesake herbaceous plant and helping the owner with nomenclature for plants in his garden.

We 'descended' briefly on the plant sales and Margaret's quick eye found the last pot of Japanese Parsley (Crytotaenia japonica atropurpurea). I might have been jealous but the kindly owner went and dug up a seedling for me too from the garden.

A great day.

Sounds like a great day touring gardens with company.  Tombrick  looks fabulous I hadn't heard of it.  Calycanthus is a new one on me I'd love to source it those maroon flowers, swoon.  The purple borage kinda thing in No. 3 I saw in your pictures of Bay Garden also do you have a name for it?

Rachel Rachel 25 May 2011 14:02:55

Sorry, Jacinta, I don't know the name of this Iris. If Tina visits the Tombrick Garden, maybe she will ask the owner. Yes, Tina, this is the one I mentioned.

Anne, that is Ligularia in photo 3. It is written underneath. It's possibly the 'Britt-Marie Crawford' variety.

Delighted to hear that you and Margaret had such a great day and some nice photos of great looking plants - I love the hosta in photo No 8 I wonder did you get a name - I think the Ligularia could be desdemona but I could be wrong

Rachel Rachel 26 May 2011 00:00:59

Mary, maybe Margaret will have a name for the Hosta. You may be right about Desdemona.
