Will I, Won't I?

Cerinthe major var. purpurescens

Cerinthe major var. purpurescens

I've been humming and hawing about potting my Ricinus on into their 3rd pot-size for ages.

There has been no growth for ages but I noticed in the last few days, things have started to FINALLY shoot up, including the Ricinus.

Considering the Ricinus should be planted in the ground in about a week, was there any point to potting on now? Also on the down-side was the fact that there would physically be no space for them in the greenhouse if they went into bigger pots.

But the upside for potting-on won out in the end. My Ricinus are smaller than they were this time last year. If I pot them on now and maybe plant them out a week later than last year, might they not grow better? Mine never grow a whole lot bigger once they go into the ground so the growing has to be done first.

So, yes, I bit the bullet this evening and missed Chelsea to pot them all on!

Funny I was looking at mine today and thinking the same ;-)

I know that dilemma as I have had it with many of my HH annuals this year. I am opting to plant them out for the most part even if they are not that big. The biggest danger is slugs.

Good for finally getting that done! I have a list as long as my arm of jobs that need doing and haven't even begun to tackle them. Love that cerinthe - reminds me that I never got round to planting my seeds! Suppose it's too late now. ;(

it had to be done, but the missing chelsea...... maybe a step too far.

Mine are in the greenhouse now too. And I thought they seemed a bit small for planting outside. But I think I'll be doing that on Wednesday, and lavishing them with lots of feed.

I love the colour and they look big enough to go outside.

Rachel, is that your cerinthe in bloom now? I just planted mine into their positions in containers the other day, but they have quite a way to go before I expect blooms.

Thank you all for the comments. There is such growing in that sun at the moment. Everything should shoot up!

Periwinkle, the Cerinthe is in bloom now but only because it seeded itself last year.
