New Pond

bounce went the froggy...

bounce went the froggy...

When dead heading today I lifted up the Water Hyacinth in the new pond - remember, the little basin-sized pond I put in this year!

This is what I found. Isn't he cute?

This spring my friend in Germany gave me the idea of little ponds to attract frogs and now I have the proof that it works! And I only have two small ponds! Thank you, Geraldine, for such a great idea. I'm dead pleased.

Speaking of wild life, saw both the koi in the other pond today when they came up for dinner. I have added some new photos to the 'July 09' album.

Aw wow, Rachel, that is so brilliant. I just get so excited at the thoughts of all those froggies hopping around the place. I get as enthusiastic as a child with a new toy. Well done. I bet you're delighted now that you decided on the ponds. Great pic

Rachel Rachel 26 July 2009 11:07:24

I planted the bulbs in pots this spring. I will bring the pots into the greenhouse for the winter, Liga.

I have seen it all Rachel, now you will be able to have frogs legs along with your fresh veg for dinner

Just looked at your July photos, what a lovely big garden. I see you have a polygala in a pot. I have one which I planted in the garden but the leaves are looking quite yellow, any advice?

Rachel Rachel 26 July 2009 14:51:05

Myrtle, you did well to bring your polygala through last winter outdoors. I believe Carmel Duignan lost hers. Perhaps it is suffering from the effort. I would suggest a good feed. If its leaves turned yellow following last winter, it may have to shed them and re-sprout new ones to look good again! But I am not the expert. I only bought mine this year and intend to overwinter it in the greenhouse (which is why it's in the pot).

Love your little frog Rachel. Frogs are the best part of my pond also. They say the pond is healthy if frogs want to live there.

aww he is cute, we did a talk earlier this year with the Irish Wildlife Trust and one slide was where somone used an upturned bin lid as a pond and low and behold it was filled with frog spawn.

Thanks, everyone. I think he's cute too. Wouldn't dream of eating his little legs, Linda!
