What's Eating my Petunias?

munched petunia 'strawberry sundae'

A few days ago I noticed that some of my Petunias had disappeared.

The seedlings are small and I was a bit disappointed but... win some, lose some.

Today I examined them in more detail. Some seedlings have been reduced to stalks and others have what look like bites taken out of them.

Since the Petunias are in my kitchen, I think I can rule out rabbits. Any thoughts?

With a name of ''strawberry saudae'' has to be the kids.

Sorry, Rachel no idea. Some of those leaves are well chewed. Did you check under the seed trays etc. and under the seed cells also, for signs on any enemies.

Ha ha. I can't see anything but it must be some kind of slug. I'll put a few slug pellets on the tray and that should sort it.

At least you have some up mine are very slow is this normal?

I've done two trays this year, Clara, and they came up fairly promptly. They were on the heat mat.

Well it's unlikely to be mice and I sure hope it's no Vine weevil (as I found an adult in the bathroom tonite!!) but it could be a small slug that made it's way in in the compost, check thoroughly for them just in case. I had to send the Himalayan order to you by your ordinary email Rachel as the one on here got stuck for some reason.

Must be slugs. I just found one on my tray of squashes in the conservatory. Where do they come from?
