Wow, Sean. I was just about to go to bed and then your post came up and all those rhodos had to be googled...

I just adore the giant white. They have to be my favourites. That R. cersinum 'Coals of Fire' and leucaspis are really unusual. I see that leucaspis has flowered for you so I'm off to look in your albums now. I think I have seen yakushimanum for sale in  this country so I must invest!

Regarding rhodo reference books, which one would you recommend? I might treat myself for Christmas

By the way, did you get your fulvum in this country or from Glendoick?

Thanks folks. The R.leucaspis didn't flower last year as the buds got done in by the frosts. It flowered in 2010, but that was before I had mastered uploading photos. The flowers are delightful. As regards books, my bible is Kenneth Cox's 'Rhododendrons and Azaleas - a colour guide'. I bought it on Amazon and its great. At some stage, I must get 'The encyclopedia of Rhododendron species' by Peter and Kenneth Cox but its very expensive. The R.fulvum was also a Glendoick purchase. The only ones I was able to get here were R.leucaspis and R.valentianum, both Mt Congreve nursery shrubs, and I got the R.Hippophaeoides in Lidl. Even though R.yakushimanum is still small, it's very free flowering and is a must if you can find it here.

Thats some list Sean, Rachel I think Easter Island had R. yakushimanum in their sale last week reduced from 22 euro to 11

I never made it there, Anne. After meeting Sean it was a quick drop and Paddy and Mary's and then off to do the grocery shopping before heading home. I'm sure there will be other opportunities!
