A couple of us were talking about our favourite scented Rhododendrons the other day and I said that mine is R.loderi 'king george' and here is a photo of its awesome flowers. The scent is divine and everything about this hybrid is top class.

One of the parents of R. loderi 'king george' is the species R. fortunei and this is also scented, although to my mind the scent isn't as good as 'king george'. The other parent is R. griffithianum, but I have never seen this in reality. The second photo shows my R. fortunei and it is a lovely species.

Enkianthus is a marvellous shrub and it associates extremely well with Rhododendrons and the bell shaped flowers are beautiful. My one is about seven feet tall at this stage and I adore it, I hope to add another variety to the garden over the next year or so.

Lovely blue sky in those photos.I wonder would an Enkianthus do well in a planter?

A fantastic Rhodo both flower and scent. Don't often see Enkianthus in gardens. Love the flowers.

I cannot get over your collection. Just amazing. Great photos as usual too Sean. Beautiful.

Thanks Jacinta, it was a lovely day here today. I don't think that the Enkianthus would look well in a container as its form wouldn't suit it, but that's just an opinion. One for your acid section, perhaps.

Thanks Mary, it is a shame that Enkianthus isn't seen more often.

Thanks Jackie, the collection is nice at this stage.

Never heard of Enkianthus before, it's really lovely.
