About my garden: My garden is just under a acre and is located in Paulstown Co. Kilkenny. I started building my house in 2000 on a very challenging site, which is located on the side of valley and my garden evolved around the house. I basically have a very wet heavy clayey soil that is fantastic for growing rushes, willows and hazels, hence by house and gardens are known as “Hazel Lodge” .The only planning that went into my gardens was sourcing good quality top soil and planting an evergreen shelter belt. I am very fortunate that my site is surrounded by beautiful oak, ash and hazel which are instrumental in providing a natural shelter for both my house and gardens.
More about me: I have always had a love of garden from the age of 12 or 13 and at age 26 I went to Kildalton College of Horticulture to study for my Diploma in Commercial Horticulture and on the way I also did an R.H.S Certificate in Horticulture. After completing my studies I specialised in plant propagation for three years. On returning to Ireland I Managed a busy garden centre in Dublin that specialised in aquatic plants, where I gained a vast knowledge in ponds and their upkeep. On returning to live in Kilkenny I sought employment in the Arboretum Lifestyle and Garden Centre, Carlow, where I was offered a position as horticulturist. Within a year I was made plants manager, where I remain nine years later and still love having a career that is an extension of my hobby. And for the challenge I completed a BSc in Horticulture and a H Dip in Business.
