About my garden: Our garden, Terra Nova, is 20 miles from Limerick city and 10 miles from Charleville, Co. Cork. The romantic part is that we are in the 'Golden Vale’ an area of lush and fertile land. The reality is that our half acre is in a frost pocket and is made up of heavy clay. When we moved here 18 years ago our 'garden' was just a wet field. At that stage I had recently given up smoking, so had a 'garden centre allowance' to spend each week. And boy did I spend it! Every Sunday Martin and I would load the kids into the car and head off for a drive. "Not another garden centre please mum" was the plea from the back seat. "No, no, dear, we are going to the beach for the day" ("via the garden centre in Farranfore" hee, hee) On the way home we felt sick with guilt. Too much money spent. We would have to cut back on our trips. And then the next Sunday would arrive and off we’d go again. The result :- our garden is bursting to the seams with plants and our kids have grown up to hate gardening!!!
More about me: Hi, I'm Deborah and I have been gardening for about 25 years. The first 10 years were a real struggle as my husband Martin was a reluctant helper. But after many years of careful nurturing and cajoling, he came around to my way of thinking and saw for himself the joy of gardening! Since 1995 we have been having a ball creating our dream garden, which is now open to visitors each summer. www.terranovaplants.com. My life revolves around plants and gardening. I have a small nursery, where I indulge my passion for growing things from seeds. I talk to clubs around the country about gardening, I write a bit in The Irish Garden mag and I even done some stints as a judge in the national garden competition and at Bloom! It's a hard life but somebody has to do it....
