AitAlainn's Profile

Where I live: Doonbeg, Co Clare Member since: November 2009 Last here: 49 days 21 hours ago
About my garden: My garden is located in an exposed but BEAUTIFUL PLACE (Ait Alainn), right by the Atlantic Ocean on the West Coast of Co. Clare. We moved in to our home in August 1999. I have spent most of the intervening years establishing shelter belts so that one day I will be able to grow a wide variety of plants. I planted hundreds of phormiums, escallonia, olearia, eleagnus, rosa rugosa, fuschia etc. in clumps on all sides of the site. All did extremely well, until the frosts of Dec '09 & Jan '11 hit and wiped out the most of my shelter - so I have to start over again. I have 3 lawns, a play area, a patio & I planted a little orchard in March 2008. I was fortunate to win the Shopping Trolley competition in The Irish Garden just at the time I was doing my patio so that took care of the plants for this area! I got a tunnel as a surprise 40th birthday present from my employers (great to be appreciated!!) and I love pottering around in it!
More about me: I am the Gardener in the household. Married, to a great "handy" man (see album), have 2 children, Niamh & Sean and Bruno our dog. Gardening is my No. 1 hobby. I have enjoyed it since I was in primary school when my grandfather prepared my first flower bed for me which started me off! My teacher also encouraged me with his love of gardening & nature. I love to visit gardens, go to garden shows & read gardening magazines. I work full time so I never have enough time for the garden.
