About my garden: The house is fairly central on a 1.2 acre elevated plot. The soil is very poor, heavy clay, and a bog in the winter. I planted willow as a wind break and to soak up the water which has been successful. It looks magnificent too, now in its 5th year of growth. I am gradually introducing bedding areas but the ground is so difficult to dig that it's a very slow process. The "back garden" has been used for grazing cows and horses so is in a very poor state. I had problems with flooding so have invested in new drainage and, of course, more willows! This year I dug a small plot in front of the polytunnel, digging out builders rubble and stone on the way. Despite the conditions being very poor, my little bedding plants, cuttings, and "gifts" from neighbours have done rather well. I'm already planning for next year and hopefully the garden will be much improved. My dream is to one day feature my garden in a magazine...it's nice to dream!
More about me: I moved to Ireland from the UK in 2003. I love gardening but am finding 1.2 acres a bit of a challenge! I bought a small polytunnel in Sept 09 and have really enjoyed sowing seeds, attempting propagating and gardening out of the rain!
