apple trees

Anne Miller asked 14 years ago

last year was the third year of eighteen apple trees in our new orchard. There were only four apples in the whole orchard that developed. there was plenty of blossom.. would you suggest we buy a butterfly tree to attract some pollination. as i understand the bees have decreased in numbers. Thanking you in anticipation. all the beetroot was taken out of tunnel today and a small proportion have been cooked as baby beetroot

There are still enough bees but young trees can be a bit slow to set fruit, especially as in Roundwood, it can be windy and cold, deterring bees and preventing the growth of pollen tube within the flower.

Ensure grasses and weeds are controlled for 1.5m diameter mininimum over root area.
