bare root hedging

Martina Roche asked 15 years ago

Is it a good time to plant bare root hedging? If so, what is ideal spacing between plants? I have one garden centre nearby but would like price comparisons, Is there a specialist nursery from where I could get trees ordered/delivered. I am considering a beech hedge! Thanking you in advance

There is still about two or three weeks to plant bare-root plants, normally until about mid-March.

Most garden centres do not stock bare-root hedging, but some do. Or you could contact forest nurseries in your area. These specialise in hedging and trees for woodland planting, often supplying them bare-root and at smaller sizes, therefore more cost-effective. But they usually deal in larger quantities.
