Box Blight

Clare Brady asked 12 years ago

What is the best way to control Box Blight? I have been using Octave and Eyetac 50 but it always seems to spread again. What can I do?

There are two different fungi associated with box blight and control is very difficult to achieve, if not impossible. A reduction of damage can be achieved for a time by spraying as has been done or using Systhane but repeated preventive spraying is not a great prospect.

It may be necessary to remove the box hedging if it gets too ugly.

The Japanese holly Ilex crenata or berberis are possible substitutes or re-design the beds without box edging.
