Box hedging

Kay Walsh asked 14 years ago

The new box hedging which I started planting last year and finished this year is doing quite poorly compared with the one I planted a few years ago. I have been watering it regularly but wondered if there was any specific feed which would help. I got a feed for topiary at an Ideal Homes exhibition about 5 or 6 years ago which was very good but the company has now gone out of business.

You could well be watering too much. Too much water deprives the plants of air at the roots.

Water newly planted shrubs once a week, but giving 10 or 20 litres even per plant.

Feed once or twice with a complete liquid feed such as Miracle grow or Phostrogen.
