My davidia planted 1988 flowered since 2005. It flowers really well but in last 2/3 yrs some branches at east side struggle to produce leaves early in spring and later die back by several feet. What could cause this and what would cure it.! I am afraid it will all die!

If the east side is exposed to strong winds, this is a possible cause of damge to new growth and subsequent die-back. This tree has large leaves and likes good shelter.
If the tree is adequately sheltered, the dieback could be caused by a fungal attack, such as coral spot disease or bracket fungus, in one of the limbs. Affected parts could be removed and hopefully the rot would be stopped.
