3 7′ trees planted on slope now in two years the lower one is fine. Higher ones have hardley any leaves and few flowers. Even though it is ex farm land the soil is not great. Would feeding them ensure they do better next year. Last autumn the higher ones changed colour and lost their leaves first while the other one still had green leaves on it.
if feeding will help what type of feed is recommended. Thank you.

If the soil is poor, feeding will certainly help, using tree and shrub fertilizer or general fertilizer. Good weed control for at least one metre in diameter would also help.
There is a possibility of water shortage too, especially if the ones higher up the slope fared worst and lost leaves early. Watering and a mulch of compost would help.
