Cortaderia selloana

Deirdre Conway asked 14 years ago

Pampas grass is about 4 ft wide x 7 ft spikes. It’s looking very worse for wear at the moment and is very big. I was wondering whether it is okay to cut it right back. I think there are mice or rats living in it. I can send a photo later if you need to see it.

Pampas grass took a bit of damage from frost but will recover. You can cut it back and the new growth will soon appear or leave it until the dead leaves come away with a tug and then tug them out, wearing leather gloves as the grass is very sharp.
